I think Rei worked as an exorcist before becoming Sailor Mars; both being hired by people who needed divine intervention, and through her own understanding that something was wrong and needing to go and defeat it. Much like Michiru and Haruka, I think she fought early, weaker versions of the Dark Kingdom’s youma, which is why she knew what to do as soon as she became Sailor Mars.

There is no Sailor Sun. That role is taken by Metaria.Either she was a Sailor Soldier with the Star Seed of the sun who got corrupted by Chaos to the point where she became an inhuman monster,or she was always a monster who managed to steal and either permanently tarnish or destroy the sun’s Star Seed. This is why Metaria is linked to the sun in both the anime and manga, and why its power wanes as Metaria’s grows.

This headcanon elaborates on two ideas; Chibi-Usa’s problem with aging + power, and the ever-elusive Sailor Cosmos.Chibi-Usa was born with control over both the Silver and Golden Crystals. The reason she was permanently stunted and weak was because her body needed to choose which Crystal to “inherit” before she could progress to puberty, and was in a stalemate trying to choose which one. When Chibi-Usa chose the Silver Crystal for herself, she started to age, and the Golden Crystal became dormant inside her. However, in the distant future, beyond Crystal Tokyo when she has become the new Queen and Sailor Moon, a villain much like Galaxia appears and takes her Silver Crystal. It is destroyed and sent to the Galaxy Cauldron to repair and be reborn.Normally Chibi-Usa would die in such a situation. But because she had two Star Seeds, the Golden Crystal shifted forward into the dominant position, replacing the Silver Crystal. But the Silver Crystal still went to the Galaxy Cauldron and still needed to be reborn. With its original host living, essentially, with a replacement Star Seed, it had nowhere to go, and so drifted off into the ether; to the distant future? To an alternate universe? That’s uncertain. But being so powerful it eventually gained a human form, similar to the Crystal’s original host - Queen Serenity - and with only a vague personality that was a diluted shadow of hers.Sailor Cosmos is not a person. She is the personification of the Silver Crystal, and that is why she returned to that past; not because of Usagi, but her Crystal.Meeting Usagi gave her humanity.

Sailor Cosmos is not a person. She is the personification of the Silver Crystal, and that is why she returned to that past; not because of Usagi, but her Crystal.

The reason Sailor Soldiers have coloured nails under their gloves is diplomatic.
There were certain political situations, especially during discussions with the Earth, where all Sailor Soldiers had to present themselves in their un-transformed, weaker states. However, if a Sailor Soldier were to transform and remove their uniform, there would be nothing to tell the two forms apart.
The coloured nails were, then, a permanent marking which could not be removed, proving when they were and were not transformed.

Anonymous asked: I've seen a lot posted about Sailor Moon's successor, i.e. Sailor Cosmos, but what about her predecessors? Do you think Queen Serenity had a Sailor Moon form and her mother before her?

Hmmm…! I’ve never actually thought about it before. But, I don’t think she did. I think the whole concept of a “Sailor Moon” is not something that really existed before modern-day Usagi Tsukino - at least not a Sailor Moon that transformed and fought on a regular basis. I think that Queen Serenity, and her predecessors, would have just fought with the Silver Crystal without transforming, but only when strictly necessary - that before that, their job would have been to be protected by the other Soldiers, and stay as far away from battle as possible. But when Luna found Usagi, she didn’t recognise her as the princess, and didn’t really have very clear memories about what happened during the Silver Millennium, so she just decided she must be a regular Sailor Soldier and got her to fight and transform as Sailor Moon pretty much every week. Then I imagine that later, Usagi/Neo Queen Serenity decided “Well, I fought alongside my guardian Soldiers basically every day and it never did me any harm… so there’s no reason Small Lady can’t fight as Sailor Moon too!”. Basically, before modern-day Usagi (Silver Millennium and earlier) the Princess never transformed unless it was strictly necessary, but then after Usagi’s time she started a legacy where the Moon royalty transformed and fought just like any other Soldier.

Of course, this is all based on the fact that during the fight against Chaos during the Silver Millennium, Queen Serenity never transformed to use the Silver Crystal. But it’s entirely possible that she merely lost the power to transform when Princess Serenity was born and inherited the Silver Crystal, much like NQS lost the power to transform when Chibi-Usa was born. So it’s possible that Queen Serenity, before having her child, was totally kicking ass as Sailor Moon too. But I think I prefer the other version.

Anonymous asked: To the mod... about your theory of cosmos... how could Usagi's great great great granddaughter inherit the silver crystal? I only say this because chibiusa has her own pink crystal... and so wouldn't HER daughter create her own crystal and so on ..?

Yes. Sailor Cosmos has the Cosmos Crystal. I meant that the Cosmos Crystal would be what the Silver Crystal (Pink Crystal, etc.) would eventually become - so that the Cosmos Crystal was once the Silver Crystal.
But your wording here - “create” - leads me to mention that Chibi-Usa didn’t “create” her Pink Crystal. She inherited the Silver Crystal, which then changed and became the Pink Crystal when she was strong enough to use it properly. So that’s what I meant in my headcanon - Chibi-Usa’s daughter would inherit the Pink Crystal, which would then change and become a unique crystal when she learned to use it, and so on and so forth until Sailor Cosmos and the Cosmos Crystal.

Anonymous asked: What is your headcanon on Sailor Cosmos?

She is one of Usagi’s descendants, like perhaps her great-great-granddaughter. She inherited the title of “Sailor Moon”, much like I believe Chibi-Usa will once she learns to fully wield the Pink Crystal and ditches the “Chibi”. But Chibi-Usa will eventually move beyond the title of “Sailor Moon”, like how Usagi herself became “Eternal Sailor Moon”, so that the new generations of Sailor Moons aren’t actually called “Sailor Moon” - eg. Chibi-Usa’s daughter’s full title might be something like “Sailor Galaxy the Sailor Moon”. She is the “new Sailor Moon” but she is not called as such. That would continue, with the title’s name and the form of the Silver/Pink Crystal shifting through the generations until we arrive at “Sailor Cosmos the Sailor Moon” with the Cosmos Crystal.
Sailor Cosmos obviously comes from a time much less peaceful than Usagi’s or even Chibi-Usa’s, and the Chaos she is fighting against has clearly turned her Crystal Tokyo into a bucket of shit and pain. So I imagine she has begun to view herself as less of an individual and more of a “role”, that she doesn’t consider herself a person but merely “Sailor Moon”, which is why she refers to Usagi as “the ‘me’ of this time” - she imagines that she has no reason to live other than to be Sailor Moon, and that Usagi’s actions were weak and wrong and that as “the Sailor Moon” she must go to “correct” them by making the harsh but “right” choice. Then she meets Usagi and lives with her as Chibi Chibi and realises that she and Usagi are very different, and that she is more than just “Sailor Moon” and that she must find the courage to fight on, etc. etc.

I will assume that you all know who Batman is, so I’ll just explain a little about Arsene Lupin; he is the original “Gentleman Thief”, the inspiration for Lupin the Third and is basically seen as the counterpart to Sherlock Holmes. The story is French but there are translations available free on Project Gutenberg - it’s definitely the kind of thing Mamoru would eat up.
